The 8th International Congress of Cancer Registry held in Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences/ Gastric cancer the most fatal among Iranian men and women

The 8th International Congress of Cancer Registry and Infrastructures of Cancer Comprehensive Program, Asia and Pacific, was launched at SBMU Imam Khomeini Conference Hall on Sunday November 1, 2015. 

The opening ceremony of this three-day congress was held by SBMU Cancer Research Center in which Dr. Malek Zadeh, Deputy of Research and Technology of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Peyvandi, SBMU Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Mohammad Esmaeel Akbari, Director of SBMU Cancer Research Center and President of the congress, as well as a number of Iranian and foreign specialists (from 22 countries in the region and the world) attended. 

Director of SBMU Cancer Research Center stated that unfortunately data show an increasing rate of cancer in the world, and West Asian countries including Iran suffer from a dramatically upward trend of mortality induced by cancer.  

The President of this scientific event referred to registration of roughly 90,000 new cases of cancer in Iran per year, about 30,000 of which die annually. 

Having referred to participation of IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer in World Health Organization) in this congress, Dr. Akbari hoped that Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences will be able to develop cancer control comprehensive program on behalf of the Ministry of Health.
